Joanne Young, mother of Paseo Aquatics co-founder and Head Coach Chris Dahowski, embodied dedication, love, and unwavering support for the sport of swimming. For more than two decades, she championed her children’s athletic journeys and gave selflessly to the swimming community—from organizing fundraisers to cheering poolside.

Her belief in the power of swimming as a life-changing experience lives on through the Joanne Young Memorial Scholarship Fund, which helps remove financial barriers so more families can access the benefits of swimming, education, water safety, and competition.

USA Swimming Outreach Program

​

The USA Swimming Outreach Program is dedicated to expanding access to competitive swimming across America. Focused on communities where opportunities can be scarce—whether due to geography, income, or underrepresentation—Outreach works to remove barriers and build inclusivity in the sport.

​

Through partnerships with local community centers, schools, and aquatic facilities, the program offers scholarships, affordable swim lessons, and coaching clinics. It cultivates early talent, fosters water safety awareness, and strengthens community ties by ensuring that every child—regardless of background—has the chance to swim, compete, and grow.

​

Beyond instruction, the Outreach Program emphasizes leadership development and lifelong health, aiming not only to produce future athletes, but resilient individuals and stronger communities. It represents USA Swimming’s commitment to equity, opportunity, and the belief that every swimmer’s journey matters.
